100th Day of School

What a great day we had at school today! I forgot how much fun the kids had on the 100th day of school. This year was the first year that I actually counted the days of school with the kids and they were so excited every day as we got closer and closer to 100!!! I made a fun entrance to our classroom today to celebrate and the kids got a little rowdy with the streamers.

We made a class book today about what we would do if we had $100. Our class would buy mansions, shiny cars, ships, farms, and dogs. Sounds great huh? Don't you wish $100 would buy those things. LOL...

We also made portraits of what we would look like when we were 100 years old and let me tell you they were hilarious. I made a bulletin board in the hall with out portraits and I uploaded the pic so you all could see our portraits of ourselves when we're O-L-D!

The kids had to bring in a collection of 100 items and hide their collections in a bag so the class couldn't see what they brought. Each child shared clues and the class tried to guess what they brought. Some of these were very hard and we could not guess what they were. We couldn't guess raisins floating in a bottle of sprite, popsicle sticks, or golf tees. There were many more that were hard and we had a blast sharing these.

Thanks for participating in our fun 100th day celebration. I hope you enjoy the pics.

I oughta' be ashamed...

I am so very sorry I haven't updated our website since September. We have had some busy, busy days at school lately. That is no excuse and I apologize for not updating you on what your little darlings have been doing. We did go on our field trip to the pumpkin patch and I will upload the pictures from that ASAP. I will also try to show some of the pictures from Halloween at school.

We have started unit 2 in reading and things are getting a little harder around our
1st grade classroom. I am requiring the kids to take more responsibility and they are having to do some things on their own now. I am reading the one side of their reading comprehension test for now and they are reading one side by themselves. This is slowly easing them into reading the entire test by themselves. They are also doing a reading workbook page for a grade now. A lot of the kids haven't been doing so great on this and it is really bringing down their reading grades. This week they did better but they still had some trouble with it.

This week at school we have read "Who Works Here?" and we have been talking a lot about community workers. The kids did some great writing about their favorite community workers and I am hoping to make a class book about community workers because they have done such a great job!!!

We decorated for Thanksgiving this week. It has always been one of my favorite holidays. We have written about the things we are thankful for and we have all "disguised" a turkey. They are too cute!!! Thank y'all for being so creative on this project. I will take pictures of our bulletin board so everyone can see all the turkeys. Mr.East is going to judge our turkeys and they top 3 winners will be getting a prize for their hard work. I'm so proud of them and this might be my favorite school project ever :)

HOMECOMING DRESS UP DAYS

Just a reminder homecoming week is next week. The dress up days are:
Monday-camo day
Tuesday-favorite college team day
Wednesday- western day
Thursday- pajama day
Friday-school spirit day

I encourage you to allow your kids to dress up. This will be a very fun week at school.

Johnny Appleseed

Whew...this has been a fun filled day full of apples, apples, and more apples. For those of you who aren't 1st grade teachers you may not know why we learned so much about apples today. Sunday, September 26 is Johnny Appleseed's birthday. Our class celebrated his birthday with homemade apple muffins and apple juice for breakfast and we had caramel and apples this afternoon with apple juice for a snack. Yum! The kids loved it and one even said..."Ms.Mary you cook better than my mama." Hahaha...another kid said..."She didn't cook this. It's apples silly. They grew on a a tree." Nice thought though.

I have a lot of pictures from today but I can upload a few. Enjoy!!!

Ms.Mary's Superheroes...

The Pep Rally Friday at school was a superhero theme. I sent a note home saying the kids could dress up if they wanted to. As I was sitting at my desk Friday morning superwoman walked into my room and let me tell you she was one excited 6 year old. :) We had a spiderman and a batman superhero in our classroom as well. Just thought I'd post the pics of our superheroes. We had some fun at the pep rally and the kids who were scared of "Sandy" and "Rocky" (the school wildcat mascots) did pretty good at the pep rally and didn't get scared on me and panic. I was a little nervous about this. I hope you enjoy our pics...

Farm City Day

We had a great time at farm city day! Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who were able to attend this fun event with your child. They were so thrilled to have you there. I took a lot of pictures and I will post a few of them on here to share with you.

If the child had an adult with them they were able to sit on a horse with Mrs.Young. Of course that was a huge hit! They played in the corn pit and threw corn anywhere and everywhere. It was wild!!! We played in a pile of hay...I say WE but I mean they! I would be so sick if I jumped in so I just took fun pics while they played.
We learned many fun and interesting facts about native americans and it was a great way to learn some new things in new ways. I hope you enjoy our pictures. I will post the infomation we are learning this week on our "What we're learning" page. Check there for detailed information on our weekly happenings.

I am sending home a permission slip today for a field trip to the pumpkin patch. It needs to be filled out front and back and sent back to school ASAP.
